Parent Resources are intended to familiarize and further engage parents with Creighton Prep's 1:1 iPad Program. These resources can also help parents understand some of the issues or concerns they might have about, and possible ways to create teachable moments with, their student and his use of the iPad.

Apple's "Families" website

Apple has collected many of their resources in one spot to help parents make informed decisions with regard to how their children use their devices.  Their goal is to provide "Tools that let parents know, and feel good about, what kids are doing.  You know your kids better than anyone. That’s why we’ve put a lot of thought into helping parents choose what their kids can do with their devices."  You can access the Families website HERE.

Using Restrictions or Parental Controls

You can use Restrictions, also known as parental controls, to block or limit specific apps and features on your iPad.  Click here to learn more about Restrictions.

Family Sharing and Apple ID for your Student

Personal and academic content is tied to an Apple ID (messaging, contacts, calendars, apps, textbooks, etc.).  Parents can still monitor and manage a student’s App Store activity using Family Sharing.

With Family Sharing, up to six people in your family can share purchases from iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store without sharing accounts. Pay for family purchases with the same credit card. Approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device.

Common Sense Media

Common Sense Media is an organization whose mission is to “empower parents, teachers, and policymakers by providing unbiased information, trusted advice, and innovative tools to help them harness the power of media and technology as a positive force in all kids’ lives.”  Click HERE and use the Parent Concern tab at the top to link to numerous resources on topics that are of particular concern for parents, such as: screen time, social media, on-line self-expression, cyberbullying, privacy and internet safety.
