Harvard Model Congress provides high school students from across the country with an opportunity to experience American government first-hand. During the four-day conference in Boston, over twelve hundred delegates tackle the most pressing and important issues facing our nation as they assume roles in each of the three branches of American government and beyond. Exciting and diverse programs, ranging from the House, Senate, and Supreme Court to HMC-TV, lobbyists, and the National Security Council, help bring American government to life and make Harvard Model Congress the nation's premier American government simulation.
Each spring, two Prep Social Studies teachers accompany approximately 18 Prep student leaders to Boston to participate in the Harvard Model Congress simulation. These students possess an interest in government and politics. While there, the group has time to explore the historical city and take in the culture. More importantly, the group gets to spend time meeting with other students from around the world and addressing modern day governmental issues. This is an incredible opportunity for our young men, and we are one of only two schools from Nebraska that participated last year. Model United Nations is an opportunity for students to prepare for and participate in a mock international delegation to the UN at UNO during the second semester. The purpose of the United Nations is to bring all nations of the world together to work for peace and development, based on the principles of justice, human dignity and the well-being of all people. It affords the opportunity for countries to balance global interdependence and national interests when addressing international problems (United Nations).
