Classes Canceled on Friday, January 18 Due to Weather

Classes are canceled at Creighton Prep on Friday, January 18 due to the weather. When they resume on Tuesday, we will be on a B day schedule followed on Wednesday by a C day schedule that begins at the regular 8 a.m. start time (no late start). Only designated staff need to report to school on Friday.

Please stay tuned to the Prep website, email, Canvas and local media outlets for additional information, and remember that when an announcement is made concerning all parochial or Catholic schools through the local media, that announcement includes Prep.

When Weather Conditions Could Affect The School Schedule

When weather conditions could affect the school schedule, information will be communicated through local media and SchoolMessenger, our emergency notification text, phone and email system. When an announcement is made concerning all parochial or Catholic schools through the local media, that announcement includes Creighton Prep. Specifically, Prep follows the lead of the Catholic Schools Office regarding weather cancellations and delays, and they mirror Omaha Public Schools.

Normally we use the single announcement to cooperate with other school officials who have made a careful study of pending weather/road conditions, and to keep the message uniform for all listeners. Parents may keep a student home if weather conditions from their particular area to school are judged to be unsafe. In these instances, please notify the Dean of Students Office.

If school is canceled due to inclement weather or another reason, the daily schedule may be adjusted to account for the lost periods of instruction. Please use the following guide to determine the next day’s schedule.

  • If the cancelled day is a “C” day, no adjustment will be made.
  • If the cancelled day is an “A” day, the following “B” day will be replaced with a “C” day.
  • If the cancelled day is a “B” day, the following day will be a “B” day followed by a “C” day. The normal schedule is resumed after these two days.

Volunteer Opportunities

Donate An Old Cell Phone or iPad

Freshman Aidan Morey is working on an Eagle Scout project to collect old cell phones and iPads to help women and soldiers in need, and you can help by donating one or both items.

Some of the donated phones will be converted into 911 phones and distributed to women who are under duress as they prepare to leave the Catholic Charities Domestic Violence Shelter. Other donated phones will be recycled in favor of calling cards that will be given to deployed soldiers of the United States Armed Forces. The iPads will be recycled.

If you would like to donate an old cell phone and/or iPad, please drop them off in the Dean of Students Office at Prep, which is located near the midway point of the main floor at the school. Cell phones and iPads will be collected through the rest of the 2018-2019 school year.

If you have questions about the project, please contact Aidan via email at 2022217@creightonprep.org.

Lannon Learning Commons Update
Posted 12/21/2018 04:24PM

Construction work in the fall was focused on the rerouting of utilities and excavating dirt from the site. Fundraising also been remained a high priority as well, with over $12 million in gifts and commitments secured as of late November.

In the winter months of early 2019 after excavation is complete, footing and foundations are scheduled to be poured and steel structures set in place while a mechanical building to house new equipment for chilled water is constructed. Work on the bell tower will happen as well.

Tasks such as enclosing the main building, pouring concrete and installing electrical and mechanical systems are planned for next spring and summer with the fall dedicated more to interior finishes. The project is expected to be complete by the end of April 2020.

If you would like to learn more about the Lannon Learning Commons or support the project with a gift, please contact Vice President of Advancement Rick Berger ’76 at 402-548-6218 or rberger@creightonprep.org.
