After winning the Central Plains Regional Tournament recently in Dickinson, North Dakota, the Five Points Bank team of Creighton Prep baseball players advanced to the 91st American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina from August 10-15 and finished second in the nation, losing only in the title game by a 2-1 score to the team from Henderson, Nevada Post 40. Congratulations to coach Pat Mooney, his staff and all the players for an exceptional 58-7 season. Coach Mooney has now led four teams of Creighton Prep players to the American Legion World Series: in 2001, 2012, 2016 and 2017.
Undefeated in pool play, FPB started on Thursday, August 10 with a 9-1 victory over Henderson, Nevada Post 40 in which the team compiled 21 hits. Minnesota recruit Josh Culliver ’17 also pitched a super game. On Friday, August 11, FPB defeated Midlands, Michigan Post 165 by a score of 6-3 then topped Shrewsbury, Massachusetts Post 397 in an 8-5 game that began Saturday, August 12 then was rain-delayed until its completion on Sunday, August 13. In a Monday, August 14 semifinal that was completed on Tuesday afternoon, August 15 also because of a weather delay, FPB defeated Randolph, North Carolina Post 45 3-1 to advance to the title game that began just over an hour later.
