The Creighton Prep swim program won its 11th consecutive Class A state title on Saturday, February 25 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln with a 449.5-point performance that was one of the best in Nebraska high school history. As in past years, a variety of swimmers helped the school to the title, including those that swam Prep to victory in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Prep also scored very well in the individual events, including Caleb Piti's win in the 200 individual medley where fellow junior Conner Funke, senior Jacob Sutej and freshman Rush Clark finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively. In addition, Colin LaFave won the 100 butterfly as teammates Rush Clark, junior Jon Gouger and fellow junior Ray Cronin finished third, fifth and seventh to help the team point total.
"This year's state meet was one of the better state meets that I've been associated with as the Prep coach," said coach Tom Beck '84. "The leadership that the upperclassmen provided was rock solid, and the performance of the relay teams really put an exclamation point on our victory."
Congratulations to all the Prep swimmers and coaches as well as the families and friends who supported them so well on a great season!
