Mattie Germer's Biography
Theology Department
Creighton Preparatory School
I received an M.A. degree in Christian Spirituality at Creighton
University in December 2006. At Creighton, I completed coursework
in Ignatian spirituality, scriptural and doctrinal foundations of
spirituality, Christian ethics, and systematic theology. I was inducted
into Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society, in recognition
of outstanding scholarship. During my time at Creighton, I held a
graduate assistantship
funded by the Lilly Endowment that allowed me to explore various
aspects of vocation. Through the support of that assistantship, I
re-started the
Young Adult Ministry program at Sacred Heart Parish in North Omaha and
conducted research on early Christian perspectives on creation and
nature for a Professor of Theology at Creighton.
Prior to my time at Creighton, I received a Bachelor's degree in Government (cum laude)
from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachussets. While at
Harvard I completed coursework in American government and society,
economics, religious pluralism, church/ state relations, and
faith-based organizations. During my college years I was actively
involved in Christian Impact, the Veritas Forum, the UniLu
homeless shelter, the Women’s Leadership Project, and the
Institute of Politics. I have published articles in the Harvard Political Review and Harvard Ichthus. I graduated from Ralston High School in Ralston, Nebraska.
I am the new speech and forensics coach at Creighton Prep. In
addition to my responsibilities at Creighton Prep, I attend St.
Margaret Mary Parish and am a mandated lector and EMHC. I am also
the Chairperson of the Omaha-area
Harvard College Schools Committee. which is responsible for conducting
local interviews for students who apply to Harvard. I am also
taking courses towards a Master's Degree in Secondary Education at
Creighton.
