Junior High Review

A wide variety of courses for students who have completed 6th through 8th grade

The following courses are offered for BOYS and GIRLS entering the 7th and 8th grade this fall.  Emphasis will be placed on the individual needs of each student in developing a foundation of basic skills in preparation for their high school years.  A cooperative effort between the student’s present school, the parents, and Prep will assist in identifying problem areas so help can be given to improve the skills of the students.

 

Please note: Students entering 7th and 8th grade may also wish to take courses from the Enrichment Program, courses numbered 11 thru 25.

 

 

COURSE INFORMATION

Dates:  June 2 - July 3 (M-F )

Tuition:            $175.00 per course

Classes are 55 minutes long.

 

Course #1 MATH TUTORING 7TH & 8TH Grades

This session is designed for 7th and 8th grade students who need individualized help in mathematics.  The instructor will be a Creighton Prep Student.

THE CLASS WILL BE LIMITED TO 6 STUDENTS.    

Time: 8:00  and 9:00 A.M.

 

Course #2 MATH BASIC CONCEPT 7TH & 8TH Grades

Basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division will be reviewed using fractions, decimals, whole numbers, and percents.  Problem-solving skills will be developed including work on word problems.  

Times: 8:00 and 9:00 A.M.

 

Course #3 ENGLISH GRAMMAR 7th & 8th Grades

This course is a review of basic grammar and usage for students who will be entering the 7th or 8th grade.  Areas of concentration for individual instruction include: the eight parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, punctuation, capitalization, vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure.   

THE CLASS WILL BE LIMITED TO 20 STUDENTS.   

Times: 8:00 and  9:00 A.M. 

 

Course #4 READING SKILLS REVIEW for 7th &  8th grades

This course is designed to review reading skills needed to be successful at the middle school level. The focus is primarily on reviewing strategies for vocabulary and comprehension.

In vocabulary, students review strategies for determining word meanings relying on word parts, such as affix meanings, word endings and word bases.

In comprehension, students work with content-area subject materials, as well as narrative passages to determine cause and effect patterns, to compare and contrast ideas, and to develop the ability to infer meaning from information given. These skills reinforce the students’ confidence for approaching the more advanced curriculum found in secondary education.    

Times: 8:00 and 9:00 A.M.

 

 

Course #6 STUDY SKILLS 7TH & 8TH Grades

 

This course is designed to begin developing or improving study skills of the junior high student.  Areas of concentration will include: learning to listen, following directions, vocabulary, note-taking, a way to read textbooks, how to study, improving memory, preparing for and taking tests, and time management. This is an excellent class for every student that wants to do better in school.

Times: 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 A.M.
