Incoming Freshman Program

The following courses have been developed for those students who have registered as freshmen at Prep this fall.  Some students will be required or recommended by the Principal to take these courses, but any incoming freshman is eligible to participate in the program.

 Incoming freshmen may also want to select courses from the Enrichment Program, courses numbered 11 thru 20.

 

COURSE INFORMATION

Dates:   June 2 - July 3

Tuition: $190.00 each course (unless otherwise noted)

 

Course #7 INCOMING FRESHMAN MATH:

This course will review the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division covering fractions and decimals.  

Times: 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

 

Course #8 INCOMING FRESHMAN ENGLISH:

Students will work on improving their language arts skills in the following areas: grammar, punctuation, mechanics, vocabulary, reading, and writing.

Times: 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00

 

Course #9 INCOMING FRESHMAN READING:

This course is designed to strengthen the reading skills of incoming freshmen.  Areas of concentration include; vocabulary, literal comprehension of specific and global passages, inferential comprehension of specific and global passages, and evaluation of passage information.  

Times: 8:00, 9:00, 10:00  

 

Course #10 SURVIVAL SKILLS FOR PREP

The Primary goal of this course is to enable the incoming student to have a running start on the first day of school.  Areas of concentration are: study habits and techniques, improvement of memory and test taking.  Students will be introduced to the library and the operation of its computer research sources. The student will learn about teacher expectations and student responsibilities. Tips and helpful clues to everyday student life will be included in open discussion periods. 

 

Times:  8:00, 9:00, 10:00 a.m. and 11:00

 

STUDENTS WHO ARE REQUIRED OR RECOMMENDED BY THE PRINCIPAL TO TAKE COURSES DURING THE SUMMER ARE STRONGLY URGED TO TAKE THE SURVIVAL SKILLS COURSE. 

 

 

Course #11 INTRODUCTION TO FOREIGN LANGUAGE

            Dates:   June 2 - July 3

Times:              9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 a.m.

Tuition: $190.00

This course is intended for students who need a head start before beginning the Foreign Language requirement in high school. It is highly recommended that students be properly prepared for the rigorous demands of a high school foreign language course. Although emphasis will be placed on Spanish, this course will be an excellent introduction to any foreign language course.

 

Course #12 CAMPUS RECREATION

 

Dates: June 2 – July 3

Times: 8:00 to 9:00 only

Cost: $75.00

 

The purpose of this extracurricular activity is to provide summer school students with the opportunity to have a physical activity option during one of the summer school class periods.  Campus Recreation will be offered during all four hours of the school day. Students will enroll in this setting where games or activities will be planned out for them.  The size of the groups will vary. 

 

Some of the activities that will be provided are:

 Basketball,  Volleyball,  Flag Football,   Kickball,  Team Handball

                                   

The games will vary per day per week.  Each day will begin with the students stretching in the gym, and then moving either outside, or staying inside for that day’s activity. 

 

Course #13 KEYBOARDING APPLICATIONS

Dates:   June 2 - July 3

Time:                10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Students:          7 through 12th grades

Tuition: $175.00 

 

This course will teach students to master the skill of alpha-numeric keyboarding through teacher-directed practice.  PageMaker software will be used in class.  Timed writing will be given daily.  Students will learn proper formatting of reports with text notes; title and reference pages; and will also discuss information regarding using the Internet to research.  Students who plan to enroll at Creighton Prep are encouraged to take this class before high school.               The class size is limited to 15.

Important Calendar Note:

June 20th will be Parent/Teacher Conferences. No Classes that day.

July 4th, No Classes for Fourth of July holiday.

 

 

SPECIAL NOTE: . Several students have won awards in art competitions with work completed in the Summer Art Courses at Prep.  Art classes are taught by Bob Willits, 1992 Nebraska Art Educator of the Year.

 

Course #15 ART: DRAWING TECHNIQUES

Dates:   June 2 - June 19

Time:                8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Students:          7th through 10th grades - COED

Tuition: $110.00

 

This course will explore basic drawing techniques through the use of various media.  Emphasis will be placed on drawing from nature, with a secondary emphasis on content.  The media to be explored will include pencil, ink, charcoal, and pastel chalks.

 

Course #16 ADVANCED TECHNIQUES AND COMPOSITION IN ART

Dates:   June 2 - June 19

Time:                8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Students:          7th through 10th grades - COED

Tuition: $110.00 

This advanced course will be offered to students who have already completed the beginning art courses at high school or have taken Course #14.  Students will choose the media they will work with.  There will be a limit of two media per session. Students will also design their respective projects with the instructor’s help. The teacher will serve primarily as a personalized technical & creative advisor. 

 

Course #17 ACRYLIC PAINTING

Dates:   June 2 - June 19

Time:                10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Students:          9th through 12th grades - COED

 Tuition:            $110.00

This class will explore a number of painting techniques to be used with quick drying acrylic paint.  Students will learn how to create various textures/ glazes with water-soluble acrylic paints; color theory and design will also be studied. Subject matter will include both traditional (i.e. portraits, landscapes, and still lifes) and contemporary hard edge painting.

 

Course #18 WATERCOLOR PAINTING

Dates:   June 2 - June 19

Time:                10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Students:          7th through 12th grades - COED

 Tuition:            $110.00

This class will offer a study of both traditional and experimental watercolor techniques.  The student will learn about color theory and its application to traditional and contemporary themes.  Techniques for landscape and portrait painting will be emphasized.

 

Course #19 WEIGHT TRAINING    The 11:00 class is full.

Dates:   June 2 - July 3

Time:    8:00, 9:00, 10:00  & 11:00 a.m.

Students:          7th through 12th grades 

 Tuition             $190.00

 

This is a great summer exercise program.  Learn how to do it the right way. This course is designed to help the novice or the experienced weight lifter.  A variety of weight lifting methods will be covered including how proper weight training can help performance in a variety of sports.  Methods of increasing muscular strength, power, endurance, flexibility, and aerobic fitness will also be covered.  

THE PREP WEIGHT ROOM WILL BE USED FOR THIS COURSE.

 CLASS SIZE WILL BE LIMITED TO 30  STUDENTS.
