Creighton Prep Summer School

 

COURSES FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

 

The following courses are offered to enable a student to make up a failed course.  Students successfully completing high school credit courses will receive one semester of credit. (Courses 21 thru 24 are not taken for high school credit). The classes are offered on a college preparatory basis.  Students will be expected to maintain levels of performance becoming of a college bound student.  Failure to maintain acceptable levels of performance will result in termination of enrollment.  Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.  More than two absences for any reason will result in the student being dropped from the course with a failing grade.  

 

High School Students may also want to take courses in Art, Computers or other courses from our Enrichment Program. Click here for further information regarding these courses.

 

A MINIMUM ENROLLMENT FOR EACH CLASS IS REQUIRED.

COURSE INFORMATION

   

Course #21 ACT REVIEW  This course is full.

Dates: June 2 – June 6

Time:   9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Students:         9th through 12th grades

Tuition:            $85.00  

This course helps students prepare for the ACT College Entrance Exam. This is ideal for the students who will be taking the test on June 7th. (If there is a conflict with a student taking a class for high school credit, it may be possible to make an accommodation so that the student can do both.)

Course #25 WORLD HISTORY I: THE GREAT RIVER VALLEY CIVILIZATIONS TO 1600 (1st SEMESTER)  

 

Time:               7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00  

A comprehensive study of world history from the development of the first four great river valley civilizations through the establishment of Greek and Roman civilization to the creation of nation states in Western Europe, the Renaissance, Reformation and age of exploration will also be explored.  Unit exams, weekly assignments, a short report, and a comprehensive final exam will serve as basis for evaluation.

   

 

Course #26 WORLD HISTORY II: 1600 TO THE PRESENT (2nd SEM )  

Time:               9:05 to 10:35 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00  

European settlements of the “New World” through the Enlightenment, Age of Democratic Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and Era of World Colonization into Changes of the 20th Century.  Unit exams, weekly assignments, a short report, and a comprehensive final exam will serve as basis for evaluation.

 

 

 Course #27 US HISTORY I: EARLY COLONIZATION to 1876

(SEMESTER I)  

 

Time:               7:30 to 9:00 a.m. (Independent Study)

Tuition:            $200.00  

A comprehensive study of American history from the early colonization period to the end of Reconstruction (1876).  Special emphasis will be placed on the development of political and social institutions and customs which contribute to that character which is uniquely American.  This course may use an independent study format depending on enrollment and teacher availability. Homework, unit exams, and a final exam will serve as a basis for evaluation.

   

 

Course #28 US HISTORY II: 1877 TO THE PRESENT (SEMESTER II)  

Time:               9:05 to 10:35 a.m. (Independent Study)

Tuition:            $200.00  

This course covers the political, economic and social evolution of the United States of America from the Reconstruction to the 1980's.  This course may use an independent study format depending on enrollment and teacher availability.  Homework, unit exams, and a final comprehensive exam will serve as the basis for evaluation.  

   

 

Course #29 ENGLISH I and II  

 

Times:              9:05 to 10:35 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00  

This course is designed for a student who failed either English I or English II, (first or second year of high school English).  The student will review basic grammatical skills and read a variety of literature.

 

 

Course #30 ENGLISH III & IV  

Times:              7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00  

This course is designed for the student who failed an upper level semester English class in high school.  The primary focus will be in the areas of literature, writing and speaking.  

 

Course #31 THEOLOGY (I-II)  

          Times:    7:30 to 9:00 a.m. or  9:05 to 10:35 a.m.

          Tuition:  $200.00  

This course is offered to any student who must obtain a 9th or 10th grade semester credit in Theology or Religious Studies.  The focus will be on moral decision making, the history of the Church, and a review of scripture.

   

Course #32 THEOLOGY (III-IV)  

Times:              TBA (List this course under “other” on the registration form)

Tuition:            $150.00  

This independent study course has an emphasis on service learning. This class will involve 30 hours service in the community and the writing of a reaction paper.

 

Course #33 PHYSICAL SCIENCE - 1st SEMESTER  

 

Times:  9:05 to 10:35 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00  

The course will introduce the student to the basic methods and concepts of scientific investigation by exploring the nature and interactions of matter and energy. This course is designed for students who need to make up one semester credit of a first semester Earth Science or 9th grade Physical Science Class.

 

  

Course #34 PHYSICAL SCIENCE - 2nd SEMESTER  

Times:              10:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

Tuition:            $200.00  

The course will introduce the student to the basic methods and concepts of scientific investigation by exploring the nature and interactions of matter and energy. This course is designed for students who need to make up one semester credit of a second semester Earth Science or 9th grade Physical Science Class.

 

Course #35 CHEMISTRY  

 

Times:  9:05 to 10:35 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00

 

This is a lab science course for students who need to make up one semester credit of high school Chemistry.

 

Course #36 BIOLOGY

 

          Times:       7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

          Tuition:     $200.00

 

This is a lab science course for students who need to make up one semester credit of high school Biology.

 

Please Note: All math classes are student-paced programs. It is assumed that students have had one full year of instruction in the subject matter. Two teachers will be in the classroom to provide individualized instruction to aid the students with the completion of the required units. Some students may be able to complete the course requirements in less than the five weeks allowed. No students will be allowed more than the five weeks. Students unable to complete the requirements in the time allowed will receive a failing grade. 

 

Also Note: It is assumed that all students are taking the course for one semester credit and that it is the second semester of the course that needs to be completed. If a student's high school requires a full year credit in the class, special arrangements must be made with the teacher.

 

Course #37 ALGEBRA I  

Times:              7:30 to 9:00 a.m. or 9:05 to 10:35 a.m. or 10:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

Tuition:            $200.00

 

This course is designed for a student who failed Algebra I.

 

Course #38 GEOMETRY  

Times:              7:30 to 9:00 a.m. or 9:05 to 10:35 a.m. or 10:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

Tuition:            $200.00

 

This course is designed for a student who failed Geometry.  

 

Course #39 ALGEBRA II  

 

Times:              7:30 to 9:00 a.m. or 9:05 to 10:35 a.m. or 10:40 to 12:10 p.m.

Tuition:            $200.00

 

This course is designed for a student who failed either Algebra II or is in recommended need of further instruction.  The focus will be on basic concepts of Advanced Algebra.

 

Course #40 SPANISH I (2nd Semester)  

Times:              9:05 a.m. to 10:35 a.m.

Tuition:            $200.00

 

This course is designed for students who failed second semester Spanish I or anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of a first year Spanish course.  The course will emphasize grammar and vocabulary.  

 

Course #41 SPANISH II (2nd Semester)  

Times:              10:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

Tuition:            $200.00

 

This course is open to students who failed second semester of Spanish II or anyone who wants to improve upon their knowledge of a second year Spanish course.  

 

Course #42 SPANISH III (2nd Semester)  

 

           Times:            7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

           Tuition:           $200.00

This course is open to students who failed second semester of Spanish III or anyone who wants to improve upon their knowledge of  a third year Spanish course.
