The Academic Program

The Creighton Prep Course of Study provides a balanced traditional curriculum of preparation for college studies. Both the freshman and the sophomore programs of studies are prescribed. All students must carry at least six "solid" (full credit) courses. Entering students who have completed a grade school course of studies are placed in the following classes:

Freshman: Theology I Sophomore: Theology II
English I English II
World History/ Geometry
Algebra I Chemistry
Physical Science Foreign Language II
Foreign Language I Physical Education
Freshman Advising Group (Sem. I) --

Incoming freshmen may be placed in honors courses based upon their entrance exam scores and their performance on placement exams given in May.  Freshman may also be placed in a second year foreign language based upon their performance on a placement exam also given in May."

Sophomores with their advisor's and parental/guardian approval may elect to take an extra academic course if space permits.

The outline of basic requirements and options for upperclassmen are as follows:

Juniors and Seniors are required to take Theology, English, and at least three other academic courses (electives of their choice) each semester.  Juniors and Seniors are required to take Economics / American Government.  Each student must have courses from four different departments.

Minimum Graduation Requirements

Four Years:
  • Theology 4.0 Credits
  • English 4.0 Credits
Three Years:
  • Social Studies 3.0 Credits
  • Sciences 3.0 Credits
  • Math, Algebra II or higher

 

Two Years:
  • Foreign Language 2.0 Credits
    (two years of the same language.)
One Year:
  • Phys Ed 1.0 Credits
One Semester:
  • Fine Arts/Humanities 0.5 Credits
  • Electives (Minimum) 2.5 Credits
 
Minimum Total Required: - 23.0 Credits

UNL REQUIREMENT - The University of Nebraska, Lincoln requires four years of math, three years of science, and three years of strictly social studies for admission. A student may be admitted to UNL on probation if he does not meet all of these requirements but admission is not guaranteed. These admission requirements may vary with other schools in the University of Nebraska system (UNO, Kearney, etc.) Prep students should look ahead and plan accordingly.
